Carla Parks, MA, MT- BC, is a Board Certified Music Therapist focused on helping others express and heal themselves through music. Ms. Parks was drawn to the field of music therapy as a result of her own personal experiences with the transformative power of music. She provided music therapy services to Veterans at the Miami VA through her organization ‘Music Therapy for Vets’. Ms. Parks facilitates music therapy sessions with interventions including therapeutic songwriting and guitar lessons. Ms.Parks feels that song writing allows Veteran's to work through difficult emotions within a supportive environment.
Ms. Parks has written and performed original music. She earned her Bachelors of Music at Howard University and did her internship at the historic St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, DC. While earning her Masters in Music Therapy at New York University, she worked with adolescents with mental illness at Bellevue Hospital. While in Jersey City, she founded the “Peace Rock Workshop” a conflict resolution through music workshop designed to address the pervasive problem of bullying.
After learning of the suicide rate among Iraq war vets Ms. Parks developed a songwriting program to encourage self expression and promote unity.Ms. Parks is dedicated to providing music therapy for Veterans to decrease symptoms of PTSD and depression.
